It’s Mental

Have you ever played an audition you thought you prepared well for, but:

  • You got onstage and blanked

  • You could hear that voice in your head that distracted you

  • You couldn’t focus on what you needed to

  • You felt that no matter how well you played in the practice room, you couldn’t play that well onstage.

The 360 Method will help you walk into an audition calmly and confidently move past those old patterns and fears to play your very best.

Want to find out if this is right for you?

It was helpful having someone from the outside help prepare me week-by-week as I made improvements. I felt like I had someone at my side cheering me on and giving me feedback I needed to hear.

It’s Technical

Do you feel overwhelmed when you look at the excerpt list, wondering where to even begin?

Sometimes it’s a matter of knowing exactly what and how to practice.

Do you know how to find:

  • The right tempos

  • The right style

  • The right sound

  • The best way to practice intonation

  • The different ways to use a metronome

The 360 Method provides a comprehensive approach to the basics in excerpt preparation. We know what the audition committee is listening for and can show you how to confidently cover all the bases so you are completely prepared.

My library of excerpt videos will support you long after our work together is done. They’ll be your “secret weapon” for every audition you take, throughout your career.

Gloria has such a wealth of knowledge — not just about practical fingerings and bowings for orchestral excerpts, but also about what it takes to maintain a full and fulfilling career as an orchestral cellist.

It’s Artistic

Playing an audition is not about perfection. Of course you have to show the basics, but really an audition committee is looking for a complete musician.

One who not only has the technical capability of doing the job, but a musician with a sense of imagination and artistic expression.

The 360 Method™ will help you:

  • Expand your imagination

  • Show you what to listen for in other artists

  • Define the difference between good and great

  • Break down how great artists transfer their imagination into their playing

Before taking this course…I wanted to take orchestra auditions but was feeling very rusty. Gloria was incredibly encouraging and thorough in teaching the course. Not only did we cover most of the standard repertoire, but she helped with preparation techniques, motivation, and both physical and mental health. Moving forward, I now feel like I’m ready to start trying again!

How would it feel?

  • To know you can play your very best at your next audition or performance?

  • If your mental, technical, and artistic preparation was absolute?

  • If you could approach the audition with calm and confidence?

  • If you could walk off that stage knowing that you left it all out there and had no regrets about how you played?

I really love talking to aspiring cellists about their challenges and goals. Let’s jump on a quick call to see if the 360 Method would work for you.

I would describe the program as one-on-one guidance throughout the process, perfecting your skills, pushing you with the unexpected, and mental preparation. You have a coach/therapist there to guide you every step of the way.

Is this for you?

Auditions can be daunting and overwhelming. It can often feel like a lonely journey to a distant goal.

But to put into a different context, auditions become just another stop along the way towards your greater artistic growth.

There is structure and logic in this course and support and encouragement in this community.

I’m keeping this course small. Let’s connect to see if this should be your next step.

Studying with Gloria Lum through her Audition Confidential program has been the most valuable cello and audition learning experience I have had. Gloria pushed me to better my audition preparation to a new level, which led me to win my very first professional orchestra audition. I would highly suggest any cellist who is preparing for an audition to study with Gloria Lum. Her insight into the audition process, as well as her skills in teaching are unlike any other cellist I’ve experienced.

FAQ’s

  • Yes. All sessions are conducted via Zoom. A Wifi connection of at least 1.5 MBPS is needed. A hardwired or ethernet connection is preferred. An external USB mic is required for optimum sound.

  • We will be meeting twice a week for two hours. One session is for new training and the other is for office hours where you can bring your questions and work on specific issues.

For the first time, I'm grouping the weeks we work together so we have three weeks "on" and one week "off," enabling participants to review the material and catchup as needed.

  • That’s okay. All Zoom sessions are recorded and available online. Additionally, you have access to my video library anytime you need, including when the course is done.

  • The investment for this program is $5000. Keep in mind that we cover more audition-specific information than most four-year college degrees. Consider the cost of NOT participating—how many years, how many plane tickets, how many hours of practice will you waste before you finally connect all the pieces of the audition puzzle?

  • In order to give the most individualized attention to each participant, there will only be six spots available.
