Six-Month Checkup

How is everyone doing now that we're entering the sixth month of pandemic practicing? Are you on track? Have you given up?

I spent the first six weeks of the pandemic by going back to basics. Really careful scales and arpeggios (I think it was my way of meditating). I also made some startling discoveries! Like my fourth finger is way weak! And that I can't always rely on it to play in tune! So I'm giving it some special exercises to build strength.

I played lots of etudes, pulled out concertos, and of course solo Bach. But I've also found lots of different solo cello works that I've always wanted to work on but never had the time.

What sort of practice has the pandemic inspired you to do?
